I downloaded and listened to one of the hour 'on demand' segments to see how they did this.
Willie got people to ring in and just talk sport... discuss anything about any sport, no subject given. Once the conversation was over they played an audio of a try being converted by Dan Carter. So I think it's down to Willie and the guy on the desk as to wether you get a yay or a nay.
So that's me out... I can't talk sport to save my life! Movies, cars, comics, house renovation, gadgets, food, Science fiction, even girls.... But sport!!!
So good luck to all who ring in, make it a goody and get it between the posts. I will still probably listen in, maybe even learn a thing or two

I heard a Jo chatting with Willie about 2:20pm. Was that you Jo?

I actually tried to ring cause they were all talking soccer and the All Whites, so I thought I could bluff that... Couldn't bleeding get through. I have such trouble with NewstalkZB.
I tried periodically between 1 and 6:
0800801080 on the landline got me the Wellington studio.
0800801080 on my cell got Peter Elliot (I think) saying" yeah, if you want the NewstalkZB network, select 1".
That just got me a squelching/engaged tone. However If I dialled 0800801080 and the 1 immediately, I got a different voice who announced the choices - first off being Northland. When I ascertained the Auckland choice I entered it and got... Wellington. This time the guy in the office said I should try 0800talksport and that would get Willie.... It didn't it got the guy in the studio next door (Radio Sport) who couldn't transfer me.
By this time 6.oclock was fast approaching and the only thing I would have wanted to talk about was to whinge about the crappy Wellington office intercepting the number... Why is there a guy in the Wellington office if Willie Lose is broadcasting from Auckland at that time? Grrrrr and BUM!

'tis true possum.
Most of the calls seemed to be from old ladies reminicing about the previous World Cup qualifying teams. Or mums saying how it is good to get their daughters outside and learn skills. One old dear (should't really call her that here, but she sounded like one) was even hitting on Willie. Chatting about his time in Italy and the Rugby clubs he trained/coached/played at and how wonderful it is there. I thought, bugger if that's the standard of conversation on a Saturday I'll ring in for a friendly chin-wag.. But NO! Foiled by the phones. Probably a good thing.

She was prob'ly country "name" dropping... Hazard of living in a relatively small place...
