The story of one man’s quest for unobtainable love takes centre stage in the Royal New Zealand Ballet’s Meridian Season of La Sylphide.

Set in the misty forests of Scotland, this traditional ballet tells the story of a young man, who on the eve of his wedding, risks everything by falling in love with a beautiful tree fairy.

First performed in 1836, La Sylphide is considered the ultimate ballet of the nineteenth century’s Romantic period.

La Sylphide contains all the ingredients of the perfect classical ballet experience - stunning staging and costumes, beautiful ballerinas and a poignant story of love and tragedy.
