I think it is a positive thing that NZ has got an opportunity to test their emergency procedures when damage here isn't likely... if it was high tide it was all hitting, then it could have been really worrying. I doubt any damage will occur in NZ (because of the low tide thing), but think it is great that it was taken seriously anyway - better to be overwarned than underwarned!

The thing we should be worrying about is poor Samoa I think the news focus should be more on them at the moment as it sounds devastating there My thoughts are with those with family, friends etc there.

Despite listening to the news first this morning, I only heard about the tsunami alert at 10.35am while driving to work??!! Hmmm that would've been a shock, as it was supposed to hit here at 10.50 At least I was going up hill by then...

Yeah this was scary for sure - I got a text this morning at 7:30 to let me know as we live close to the beach too - luckily up a hilly street though - and then I had to be even closer to the beach at 9am-10am for walking a dog - at a park near the beach at Browns Bay - wasn't pleased about that - but luckily nothing (I almost rang the people and said I coudn't do it just incase) - lucky!! - but I kept one ear in on my mp3 player for most of the day listening to the radio just incase - I know at least one place in Browns Bay shut today for a few hours just incase.

that must have been scary for your friend in Campbells Bay Stormymiss - glad nothing ended up happening - and lucky it was a low tide

Poor people in Samoa - that really sucks - and it hit while a lot of them we still sleeping apparently - I haven't seen the news yet but from what I heard on the radio a lot of villages and lives were destoyed
